Bandits’ Attack: Boat Conveying Fleeing Villagers Capsizes

In a clear case of from frying pan to fire, has been recorded in Sokoto, as a boat helping villagers to escape bandits’ attack have capsized.

A yet-to-be ascertained number of Zalla Bango residents, a remote community in Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto State, are believed to have thus lost their lives.

Eye witnesses told journalists tragedy occurred in the evening of Thursday, September 18,

The tragedy occurred shortly after the Maghrib prayer on Thursday, according to eyewitness account.

It added that the wooden boat had ran into the edge of a collapsed culvert along the Goronyo–Sabon Birni road, capsizing.

An uncertain number of lives is believed to have been lost, and many of them are believed to be women, who were attempting to escape bandits’ attack in the area.

In his reaction, the chairman of Sabon Birni local government area, Alhaji Ayuba Hashimu said only the body of a woman had been recovered from the water.

He added the Sokoto State Government recently distributed motorised boats and life jackets, a day before the incident.
