Arsenal Addresses European Super League Stance
Arsenal made their stance clear on the European Super League controversy with a statement following plans for new club competition revealed.
The Gunners reaffirmed their commitment to UEFA competitions and formally opposed the European Super League’s revival. This move aligns them with other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Chelsea, who distanced themselves from the relaunched Super League.

The statement read: “Arsenal Football Club notes the judgement by the European Court of Justice on Thursday, 21 December 2023 and our position in relation to the European Super League has not changed. We will continue to play in UEFA competitions and continue to work with fellow European clubs and the European Club Association (ECA).”
Speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s crunch meeting with Liverpool, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, said: “Very clear. Exactly the same. We remain in the same position. We love playing in the CL and we’ll continue to do so.”
When asked if he had a chance to discuss about the Super League with the board, he said: “The conversation that we had were very clear after what happened two years ago. I think the club has issued a statement that is very clear and transparent. We’ll stick to that.”
The Super League organisers quickly revealed version 2.0 of their idea after the court’s decision. In an attempt to challenge UEFA’s Champions League, the organising organisation, A22, announced the end of the UEFA monopoly and presented plans for a men’s league with 64 elite European teams divided into three categories. All matches would be available for free digital streaming, and participating teams would receive solidarity payments and guaranteed income.
Even after the announcement, it was clear that only the two biggest Spanish teams—Barcelona and Real Madrid—remain supportive of the Super League, with other premier league teams, as well as Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, among others, preferring to stay out of the project.
