As part of it 2026 students’ week celebration, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) yesterday, hosted a dynamic career day seminar that brought together leading minds in communication.
The event which held at the institution’s Sir Kensington Adebutu Media Resource Centre is directly aimed at increasing students’ knowledge on the power of communication in every industry.
Delivering his keynote address, CEO of RED for Africa, Ayodeji Razaq emphasised on the evolving roles of artificial intelligence in the media space
”It’s weird. Now, it doesn’t mean that there is no space in the industry for new people. It just means that there is no battle of human versus human. And more importantly, it’s not human versus AI. It is now human versus AI versus AI,” he stated.
The event also featured a panel session which was moderated by a student, Okunoye Marvellous
Speaking during the session, a seasoned Human Resources (HR) practitioner, Adedolapo Wale Kehinde explained the concept of communication presented a perspective of communication having the ability to express intent and idea, how one can put your imagination out to other people in a respectful way or in a way in which people can accept.
“And you know that communication is not just about talking. Communication is everything. You can use your body to communicate” he said.
Also contributing, a digital marketing strategist, Mrs Romoke Badejo, emphasised on the usefulness of verbal communication during a employment interviews.

“So, as a media person, this is a strong option to look out for when you are seeking jobs”, she said, adding that as a professional, that she prefers to send out her portfolio rather than send her CV.
”As a communicator, especially as a communication student, one of the values you should have is paying attention to detail… active listening. And not that you are just listening to them because you need something from them”, she added
The Career Day Seminar is one in a series of activities lined up for the students’ week.
