Women Health Issues: MWAN Set To Collaborate With Presidency

Women health issues will move closer to the front burner following an upcoming collaboration of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) and the Office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu

Specifically, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Women’s Health pledged commitment towards strengthening women’s health initiatives across the country.

Dr Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, made the pledge during a meeting with MWAN executive members in Abuja on Friday.

She commended MWAN for the courtesy visit and expressed appreciation for the association’s willingness to work with the presidency to advance women’s health and rights.

In her words: “As clinicians and leaders working directly with women and girls, MWAN’s perspective reflects both evidence-based insights and the realities of service delivery”.

This is even as she added that MWAN had been playing a critical role in women health issues in the country generally.

The Senior Special Assistant mentioned the Presidential Women Health Transformation Initiative RenewHER as the latest health sector intervention programme for women from the office, launched by the President on September 11, 2025.

She said RenewHER had been floated to coordinate system-level improvements in women’s health outcomes in the country, using 3 key pillars.

The 3 pillars according to her are:

1. national digital media and advocacy platform to improve health literacy,
2. geopolitically anchored campaigns on maternal, sexual and reproductive, and mental health, and
3. high-level summits and coalition-building with government, civil society, the private sector, and global partners.

National President of MWAN, Dr Zainab Mohammad-Idris, while responding, said the association had been active in women health issues before now before now

According to her, the current collaboration with the Presidency would help to deepen MWAN’s intervention.

The Eagle reports that the Presidency using its Renewed Hope Agenda has been responding to social issues in the country.
