Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader has declared that his country would build an invincible military , while accusing the United States of being the root cause of instability in the Korean peninsula.

Kim Jong-un made his statement while reviewing a rare exhibition of weapons systems added however that his drive to build up his military isn’t targeted at South Korea.

He said there shouldn’t be another war pitting North Korea and South Korea.

Kim spoke on Monday at the “Defense Development Exhibition Self-Defense-2021”, an event meant to mark the previous day’s 76th birthday of the ruling Workers’ party.

There are media reports in South Korea that the exhibition  was the first such event held by North Korea.

Kim Jong-un called  the United States a “source” of instability on the Korean peninsula, and that an important objective for North Korea was possessing an “invincible military capability” that no one can dare challenge.

The Biden administration has repeatedly stated it has no hostile intent towards the North, but Kim told the exhibition: “I am very curious if there are people or countries who believe that.”

North Korea has not been in the best of relations with the United States over a number of international issues, and usually triggered  by what it considers the latter’s posturing in the Korean peninsula.

Last August, a senior North Korean official denounced South Korea over its joint military exercises with the United States, warning that such actions risked provoking “a serious security crisis.”

“They must be made to clearly understand how dearly they have to pay for answering our good faith with hostile acts after letting go the opportunity for improved inter-Korean relations,” Kim Yong Chol said in the statement, released on state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim, who was North Korea’s former spymaster and who served as former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s counterpart during talks with Washington, said authorities in Seoul were “defying the opportunity” to improve relations on the Korean Peninsula by conducting “frantic military exercises regarding our state as the enemy.”
