Heartless As Bandits Escape With 13 Year Old Girl

Heartless – Heartless is the word on the lips of residents in the Kurfi local government area (LGA) of Katsina State where bandits have abducted a 13 year old girl.

Residents are particularly alarmed in describing the act as heartless, while wondering what would be happening to the teenager.

Khadijat Mutaka was abducted yesterday after the bandits had shot and injured one Ibrahim Yar-Garshe, 30, in the course of their operation.

The incident happened at about 9pm, reports said after the bandits had scaled the impossible terrain charactersed by mountains before reaching their prey.

Superintendent of Police, Gambo Isah who speaks for the Katsina Police Command, , who confirmed the incident, said policemen of Operation Puff Adder rose to the task and confronted the bandits, but that they were able to escape into the bush taking along the girl.

“The hoodlums kidnapped a thirteen-year-old girl and shot one Ibrahim Yar-Garshe on his leg. The security team including Operation Puff Adder and that of Operation Sharan-Daji are already making efforts to rescue the girl. Ibrahim is also receiving treatment in a hospital”, he told newsmen.

The Eagle correspondent who monitored the news learnt that the police were intensifying efforts to nail in the kidnappers.

In the interim, wounded one Ibrahim Yar-Garshe had already been taken to a hospital.

Operations of bandits had reached a worrisome dimension in the state of late. With the State Police Command saying it had killed eight suspected bandits in Batsari Local Government Area of the state.

Gambo Isah, the command’s public relations officer, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, August 8, 2020, in Katsina, adding that on August 6, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Batsari led Operation Puff Adder to Zamfarawa village based on report that bandits numbering over 40, armed with AK 47 rifles attacked the village.

He said that the bandits shot to death one Shafi’i Suleiman, 65 and Yakubu Idris, 70, adding that they also rustled a number of cows in the area.
