You Can Now Attend Egungun Masquerade Festival Without Fear

You can now attend the upcoming Egungun masquerade festival in Osun without fear.

This is because the initial source of anxiety of cultural lovers, especially those who yearly look up to the Osun version, has been removed.

The subsisting issues between the the Chief Imam of the Kamaudeen Mosque, Osogbo, Alhaji Kasim Yunis, and the custodian of a masquerade, Chief Kayode Esuleke, has been resolved.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kehinde Longe who brokered peace between the feuding parties has given an assurance of peace in the course of the celebration of the festivity.

He gave the assurance through a statement issued in Osogbo today, and signed by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola.

He announced in the statement that the two sides have resolved to allow the peace to reign, and so that the Egungun masquerade festival could hold without any breach of law and order.

Longe in the same breath, warned those who may want to foment trouble to desist from such, promising that his men would not sit idly and watch such happen.

His warning has been instructed by past incidents whereby members of the Kamaudeen Mosque and the followers of Esuleke masquerade had usually had a brawl.

2021 comes to mind even as the commissioner issues the warning because in that year, there were bloody clashes which at the end of the day left one person dead, and many others with injuries.

“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Patrick K. Longe, held a strategic security meeting with the masquerade custodian, Pa Esuleke, and the Chief Imam of the Kamaudeen Mosque, Oke Baale, Osogbo, Alhaji Kasim Yunis.

“CP restated that he will not condone anything that will cause the breach of peace in anyway”, he stated in the statement.

The Eagle reports that the Egungun Masquerade Festival is one in the many that hold across the country periodically and which hold high potential of generating foreign exchange for the country.

However, safety of lives of attendees has usually been a source of concern, as much as the lack of infrastructure in the country.

Many tourists who would have loved to come relish the rich cultural lifestyles of Nigerians are usually put off by the reality of the aforementioned problems.
