5-Day Heavy Downpour, FG Releases List Of Areas To Evacuate

There will be 5-day heavy downpour in Nigeria coupled with flooding and the federal government has released a list of communities to evacuate their areas.

The 5-day heavy downpour would also affect the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre.

The centre which is of the Federal Ministry of Environment, identified communities at risk, as those on the flood plains of Rivers Donga, Benue, and Ogun, directing that they should evacuate.

The centre indicated that the identified locations and their surroundings are likely to experience rainfall that could result in flooding from the 14th to the 18th of October 2024.

The states and locations affected in the 5-day heavy downpour include

  1. Osun State: Ede, Ile-Ife, Ilesa, Osogbo);
  2. Delta State: Escravos
  3. Cross River State Ikom
  4. Anambra State: Onitsha
  5. Taraba State: Donga, Ibi, Wukari, Bandawa, Beli, Bolleri, Dampar, Duchi, Garkowa, Gassol, Gungun Bodel, Kambari, Kwata Kanawa, Lau, Mayo Ranewo, Mutum Biyu, Ngaruwa, Serti, Yorro);
  6. Nasarawa State: Rukub
  7. Kebbi State: Argungu, Birnin-Kebbi, Gwandu, Kalgo, Ribah, Sakaba, Yelwa
  8. Gombe State: Bajoga
  9. Katsina State Bakori, Funtua
  10. Borno State: Biu, Briyel
  11. Kaduna State: Birnin-Gwari, Buruku, Kaduna, Jaji
  12. Niger State: Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Lavun, Magama, Mashegu, Mokwa, New Bussa, Rijau, Sarkin Pawa, Suleja, Wushishi.
  13. Yobe State: Dapchi
  14. Adamawa State: Demsa, Farkumo, Ganye, Gbajili, Jimeta, Mayo-Belwa, Mubi, Natubi, Numan, Song, Shelleng, Wuro Bokki);
  15. Kogi State: Ibaji, Omala
  16. Kwara State: Jebba, Kosubosu
  17. Bauchi State: Kari, Tafawa Balewa, Kirfi
  18. Plateau State: Shendam, the FCT (Kubwa, Gwagwalada, Bwari);
  19. Kano State: Sumaila
  20. Oyo State: Kishi
  21. Sokoto State: Silame
  22. Zamfara State: Majara

“Also, due to the rise in the water levels of Rivers Donga, Benue, and Ogun, communities on the flood plains of these rivers, as well as other flood plains, are advised to evacuate.”
