Why Barcelona Have Cooled Interest In Brighton’s Manger De Zerbi

Barcelona is apparently searching elsewhere for Xavi’s replacement after realising how “complicated” it would be to recruit Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton.

The Catalan team has been connected to Seagulls head coach De Zerbi, but a report in the Spanish newspaper Sport claims it will be difficult to sign him. As a result, the Blaugrana will probably keep looking for a replacement for Xavi, who is leaving the position this summer.

According to the report, Barca’s unstable finances mean they will probably refuse to pay De Zerbi’s departure clause, which is worth about €15 million (£12.8 million). Furthermore, Liverpool is keeping an eye on the Italian, and if they were to sign the former Sassuolo manager, they would have to move quickly. Liverpool is eager to find a successor for departing manager Jurgen Klopp.

De Zerbi, who signed with Brighton in September 2022, helped the team finish sixth in the Premier League the previous year and advanced to the round of 16 in the Europa League this season. His contract at the Amex is set to expire in 2026.
