Agony is increasing daily in Borno South Local Government Area of Borno State where terrorists’ activities have been on the upsurge in the recent.
The latest anxiety is coming on the back of the news of a disease outbreak in the camp of the ISWAP terrorist group which is holding women and children captive.
The Eagle findings show that from Mussa community in the Askira/Uba local government area alone, 44 school children with ages ranging from 2-18 were abducted when the insurgents attacked Mussa Primary JDSS on 15 May 2026.
Not only have they not been released, latest information is that there is a disease outbreak where they are held.
Some stakeholders in the community who spoke exclusively with The Eagle expressed both anger and frustration that the vulnerable ones have remained in captivity despite the imperative of seeking their release by all means by government at both the state and the federal levels.

An umbrella youth body, Borno South Youth Alliance has just raised a fresh alarm that the lives of the children in captivity lie now in graver danger following the disease outbreak
In an official statement on the matter, titled: MUSSA / LASSA ABDUCTED SCHOOL CHILDREN ARE FALLING SICK IN ISWAP CAPTIVITY DUE TO DISEASE OUT BREAK IN THE CAMP WHERE THEY ARE HELD, a copy of which was sent to The Eagle, the communities reiterated its appeal for the safe return of those in captivity.
BOSYA, which raised the alarm in conjunction with Operation Sulhu Da Zaman Lafiya (OSL), stated: “there are growing health concerns and disease outbreaks within the camp where the children are being held.
“We have also received information that some of the kidnapped children have fallen ill and are not receiving adequate medical care.
“This development has become a major concern in our ongoing mediation efforts, as our objective remains to secure their safe release with zero casualties, just as was achieved during the release of the Ngoshe 416 women and children”.
“We therefore call upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and every relevant government office and security institution to intensify and hasten whatever efforts are currently being made to secure the release of these innocent children before illness results in avoidable casualties”.
Reiterating that the two bodies remain committed to pursuing every peaceful and humanitarian avenue available to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped children to their families, the statement added that discussions and mediation efforts are currently ongoing through Operation Sulhu Da Zaman Lafiya (OSL) under the leadership of BOSYA President Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, and that Nigerians would be informed of the outcome as developments unfold.
Although our correspondent received wider complaints about both the deteriorating welfare of those in and wider security breaches in the local government area, efforts to have these confirmed officially did not yield.
Our correspondent put calls to both the Senator representing the Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume, as well as the Executive Chairman of the Askira/Uba LGA, Hon Mada Saidu, without getting the needed response.
While the Senator’s number was switched off, the Honourable’s number went through twice but was not answered.
