Transfer LIVE: Arsenal Boss Arteta Eyes New Midfielder Amid Elneny Injury Fears

In light of “concerns” regarding Mohamed Elneny’s injury, Mikel Arteta has acknowledged that Arsenal might sign a midfielder before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Leandro Trossard cost £26 million ($32 million) to join from Brighton, and Jakub Kiwior cost about £20 million ($25 million) to sign with the Gunners earlier this month.

However, there are concerns that they may need to make another market purchase due to Elneny’s potential season-ending knee injury, which he sustained in practice ahead of the north London derby.

Arteta said when asked if Elneny might miss the remainder of the campaign, “There are concerns, especially (because) Mo is a player who never complains about anything. He had some issues with his knee that we are assessing at the moment and we will have to see how he evolves.”

Sambi Lokonga is the only natural replacement for Thomas Partey after Elneny’s injury, and because the Belgian hasn’t displayed any sort of convincing form since signing from Anderlecht, Arsenal now appears to be lacking in the central midfield position.

Regarding the potential addition of a second player to fill in for Elneny, Arteta added: “Well, we need some more cover in midfield ideally if we can. In this market it’s pretty complicated to do that. If there’s anything else available that can make us better we’ll look at it.”

In the fourth round of the FA Cup, the Gunners will travel to Manchester City on Friday night.
