‘Tiv People Are The Ones Committing Atrocities In Our Land’

Tiv people are the ones committing atrocities in our land, says Dr. Samuel Ahmed Bibinu, the Chairman Ichen Cultural Association in Taraba State.

Ahmed levied the heavy allegation yesterday while speaking with newsmen on those responsible for the conflict in the area, listing the atrocities to include armed robbery and kidnapping in southern Taraba.

He spoke against the background of reports of killing of 20 persons, destruction of about nine towns and increasng anxiety in the area, adding that thousands of terrified Ichen people including women and children have now fled to Kurmi, Bali, and Takum.

According to him, the burning of property also affected foodstuffs and economic trees which cost he put at millions of naira.

Dr Bibinu told newsmen that Ichen towns destroyed by Tiv militia included Gidan Adamu, Gankwe Bariki, Kwassa Sabo, Dadin Kowa and Suntai Donga.

He also mentioned Zambana, Sanso and Kwassa Sarki.as amongst the affected areas.

Describing the Ichen people as peace-loving and coexisting with neighbors peacefully, he added that the attack on them had been unprovoked.

He therefore implore religious leaders to pray for Ichen people and also prevail on the Tiv people to drop their arms and embrace peace.

He said displaced Ichen people are in need of assistance of food and medicine to avoid the outbreak of diseases among the displaced persons.
