‘Though he attempted killing me and my 1year old baby, please release him. 

That is plainly the plea from mother of one year old baby and a stab victim, who even escaped from a health centre where she was receiving treatment for stab wounds inflicted on her by her husband, to plead for his release.

The action of Ireen Chuundu , from  Nampundwe in the Central region of Zambia has left police and others shocked.

She had felt for her husband after he was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill her and her one-year-old baby, according to the Zambian Observer report.

It was members of the public and her sister that actually rushed the woman to the local health centre, after her husband, Isaac Kasoma, allegedly stabbed her twice on her thigh and even attempted to kill the baby by squeezing its neck and dipping the baby’s head in a bucket of water.

Police in Shibuyunji, it was an enraged crowd that dragged Mr Kasoma to the station, reporting that he had stabbed his wife and injured his baby.

“Before we could even start investigating the matter, woman came to the station and pleading that we release her husband because he was her sole provider as well as a breadwinner of her family and his.

“We did not see any injuries on her. She claimed that her husband did not assault her in any way and we released him. We do not have a complainant in this matter,” the police source said.

Nampundwe social welfare cash transfer Chairperson, Siophar Jamba said he accompanied members of the public to the rural health center where the victim was being attended to.

“The victim and her baby were injured by their husband and father, respectively. The suspect allegedly stabbed his wife and squeezed his one-year-old baby before dipping her in water. I left the health personnel attending to the patients,” Jamba said.

In a slight twist, the victim also reportedly denied being assaulted by her husband.

In all, her body language was: ‘Though he attempted killing me and one year old baby, please release him’.

The news stirred The Eagle newsroom once it broke with some people justifying the woman’s action as a show of love, while others said, she ought to have allowed the man to carry his cans.

He said that to his supprise, he was informed that the victim had left the health center and denied being assaulted by the suspect
