Those That Qualify For The N5k COVID-19 Palliative -FG

Published

on

BY CAMI EZENWA

If you are expecting the federal government’s COVID-19 palliative and you have more than N5, 000 in your account, you may not get it.

This is because the palliative is targeting only those on the very lower cadre of the economy and have less than N5,000 in their accounts presently.

Besides that, if you have been topping up your credit generously, you might also, technically speaking, get the palliative.

Government says it would use the mobile networks to identify people that top up the credit units for their phones with N100 or less, adding that state governments would now be involved in the distribution of food items.

These were part of the fallouts of the meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, which met in the bid to find succor for Nigeria’s poor amidst COVID-19.

The forum also said these measures have become necessary to avoid the kind of experience in Ecuador, where people in the informal sector poured onto the streets to defy lockdown because they were faced with hunger.

According to the report, this not only increased the rate of contacting the infection, but also led to the death of hundreds.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq later told journalists that the Ministry would now focus on the urban poor as it carries out President Buhari’s directive on the distribution of palliatives.

“You are aware that the President in his broadcast of Monday 13th April, directed that we expand the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer by one million and in this regard, we are going to focus more now on the urban poor.

“These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood; they are daily wage earners and these are the people that we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities.” She said the ministry would use three options in selecting the beneficiaries of the scheme.

“Well, we have three options; one, we are going to use the national social register that we already have.

“Two, we are also going to focus on the urban poor as I mentioned, by using their verified BVN accounts to get them, that is, people that have an account balance of N5, 000 and below.

“We are also using the mobile networks to know people that top up the credit units for their phones with may be N100 or less. Those are also people that we consider to be poor and vulnerable”.

Infact, what I see in the last three weeks of this lockdown is suffering and hardship in average Nigerians. Hunger may become the most feared than corona virus itself.

What is the real problem with Nigeria? Every thing is always an issue. The money self won’t even reach the proper people who are in need of it. I know of some families that won’t survive before next week Monday, Just that if the money does not reach places we the youth will arise and we won’t sit at home and wait any longer, I myself can’t die in silence

We need to fear God in this country; if any money enter into our account you remove your percentage tax immediately to pay us money, is it hard for You?
America paid everybody with working permit $1200. They even gave their babies. Where are we going in this country. We can not satisfy our country

To he’ll with their money ,when corruption has eaten deep into this our blood, those expecting the money should keep waiting. AS For me I don’t have more than #150 naira in my accou. But if the children of Israelite can survive in the wilderness for forty years plus I will survive during this lock-down period.

When will the money be given and besides, how about the Ikeja Electric bills federal government pronounced that two months payment would be covered up and Ikeja Electric was telling us to be paying because federal government hasn’t signed any valid agreement with them? This is a very important issue because when we couldn’t go to work how can we be paying for the service

If the sharing can be done just like the time of census, it would be better because of the aged and disabled. Please federal, see to it

How can this 5k get to those that are suffering without bank account, it would have be easy reaching them via communities but our politicians will not allow it get to this poor person’s. It is either they politicised the sharing or share it among their families.

  31. Nuhu Adamu Kamale

    April 16, 2020 at 8:39 pm

My good leaders and people of Nigeria, people are busy talking of how to share money amongst the people, let’s also talk of how we can turn to God to ask for our forgiveness so that our land can be healed.

This is very funny, the governments are tricksters. If they truly want to share money to the low citizens they would have done it since and not talk about it. Their sharing is audio sharing. We are hearing and not seeing it. More than 40million Nigerian have BVN, even if it is 10,000naira or even 5000naira it would go a long way. Stop giving conditions, people are starving everyday. We hear about billions and trillions of naira everyday but more than 90% of Nigerians haven’t gotten even a 100naira. Our government is a serious joke

  39. Meeting

    April 16, 2020 at 5:41 pm

You mean someone who is having 5000 thousand naira in his or her account is a rich man in Nigeria. How much is a basket of rice, beans and garri. Nigeria leaders make onah do well.

  40. faithbaba300@gmail.com

    April 16, 2020 at 5:32 pm

So, if you don’t have up to 5000 in your account, you are not getting? Now, I don’t have anything in my account so I can’t survive with my family? Wonders shall never end and I have no job…

  41. Solomon

    April 16, 2020 at 5:31 pm

Here is the scam behind this all… Someone staying in Lagos, had his/her account opened in a local government area in Ilorin… Here has less than #5000 in his account. How are they going know he is an urban or rural person? Of they don’t want to help the poor let them say so and we will just do like Ecuador and try to save ourselves

  42. Oke Christopher

    April 16, 2020 at 5:11 pm

It should be done faster because many are slumping to death every day due to hunger, house rent palaver and other pressing issues of life. Thanks to the government and other philanthropists.

Government should hear the cry of the massses…….since last two weeks before adding another extra two weeks we have been hearing cash transfer from federal Government, is it when we all die in hunger that they will start to send the money.??
Nigeria is number one among the un-serious countries in the whole world.

What about those who top up their phones with N100.00 but do not have account numbers? Furthermore, what of those who can not even top up their phones at all and don’t have account numbers. What of those who are over 70 years and are sick with diabetes, hypertension, etc and can’t afford even drugs for treatment? There are many people who are excluded.

Hope the bank name is not restricted because Nigerians use different banks. Also, account no is not restricted.
Some account numbers start with three zeros while some take another digit different from zeros.
