Shootings Scatter Pro-Wike Rally In Bayelsa

A Pro-Wike rally holding in Bayelsa State has ended in disarray after thugs rained bullets at the protesters

Wike, short for Nyesom Wike, is minister of Federal Capita Territory (FCT) who remains a political force in not only his native Rivers State but the neighboring Bayelsa.

Members of the New Associates who organized the rally were already seated at the Church of God Mission Camp arena, when gun shots rang out from a nearby bush scattering already seated protesters to different directions.

Though there were no casualties, but many members of the NewAssociates, had sustained injuries by the time the atmosphere cleared.

This was even as men of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) tried to counter the hoodlums.

“How will somebody go after law-abiding citizens of Nigeria, particularly Ijaw youths, who have gathered to associate politically”, Secretary of NEW Associates Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe asked rhetorically while reacting to the shooting,

“We are here to express our support, solidarity to the President and Commander-in-Chief”, he added, accusing the state government of trying to scatter their peaceful rally.

Ekerefe stated that notwithstanding that their pro-Wike rally would go ahead.
