Check Out List Of Nigerian Delegation To Pope Francis’ Burial

Nigeria as raised a list of dignitaries to represent the country at the Vatican City for Pope Francis’ Burial on Saturday, April 26.

The delegation would be led by the President of the Senate, Mr Godswill Akpabio

The Eagle reports that His Holiness, Pope Francis, died on Monday, April 21, 2025, aged 88, and condolences have been pouring in ever since, also providing opportunity for incisive reports on the life and times of the Catholic Pontiff.

Below is the list of the Nigerian delegation as constituted by President Bola Tinubu for the Pope Francis’ Burial

1. President of the Senate, Mr Godswill Akpabio,
2. Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu;
3. Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria; CBCN,
4. Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Archbishop Matthew Hassan Kukah;
5. Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, Archbishop Ignatius Ayua Kaigama.

The president, had earlier on Monday joined the rest of the international community in commiserating with the Vatican and Catholics the world over concerning the passing on of the Pope.

The delegation is expected to follow up by formally delivering a letter conveying his condolences and those of Nigerians.

The Eagle also reports that the late pope had made a widely publicised appearance on Easter Sunday, using the opportunity to reach out to people.

His death at Saint Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday, left a lot of people in shock especially those who had followed his activities a day earlier.

“Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell in the statement published by the Vatican on its Telegram channel announcing the pope’s transition.

“This morning at 7:35 am (0535 GMT) the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father.

“His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and His church.”
