Rogues Device New Ways Of Stealing Cars Without Keys

There are calls for increased caution on the side of vehicle owners as rogues have devised new ways of stealing cars without using keys.

It does not matter if you have securely locked the cars and have the keys by your side table within the confines of your bedroom.

With a combination of higher tech gadgets and street wisdom, the thieves are beating real car owners to the game and making away with their posh cars.

Investigations show that this practice thrives not only in Nigeria but elsewhere with comparatively higher technology deployment.

For a start, recently, operatives of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Special Tactical had bursted a syndicate specialized in the use of remote devices to steal cars.

One Rotimi Oyewole, a 48 year old man for allegedly using a master key to steal cars from different parts of the country.

Acting Force Public Relations Officer FPRO CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who paraded members of the syndicate, said they specialise in using a master key to steal cars and sell in Kaduna and other cities.

There have been many more such cases in the country, but Nigeria is not the only country where rogues have devised new ways of stealing cars without keys.

Also, father of three Wayne Thompson, 47, from Enfield, London,  just fell victim to the antics of rogues who have devised new ways of stealing cars, despite that he had kept the keys to the family’s £46,000 Volvo XC90 in a Faraday pouch 20ft from the front door.

A mailonline report said Thompson, a health and safety advisor was shocked to see two crooks steal his car in the middle of the night using a relay signal trick.

Similarly, Harry Goaman, 25, from Clapham South, came home last month to find his £21,000 second-hand Mercedes C-Class Coupé had been taken by thieves using the relay trick, even though the car keys were in a cupboard drawer 10ft inside his home, the newspaper added.

In the latest case, the victim also caught the three criminals who perpetrated the act on camera.

Dressed in black with balaclavas over their faces, they confidently strolled around nonchalantly and were done stealing his luxury car in under 30 seconds.

According to the report, both victims were shocked by the ease at which the thieves were able to steal their cars,

According to Mr Thompson: “We are shocked it happened. The keys were in the kitchen in the Faraday pouch”, but then turned the heat on car owners.

“What are the car makers doing to prevent it? They are not doing anything to help us.

“We have to consider a wheel lock or a post in front of the car.’

In another cited case, Harry Goaman, 25, from Clapham South, came home last month to find his £21,000 second-hand Mercedes C-Class Coupé had been taken by thieves using the relay trick, even though the car keys were in a cupboard drawer 10ft inside his home.

Even though the thieves were not standing close to the door they were able to use a super-strength signal to break into the car, the report informed.
