How God Saved Us From No-Nonsense Robbers –Bishop Okonkwo

Seeing successful men and women of God drive by in their cars and elegant dressings, usually stirs in us, the feeling of a life of just luxury and glamour.

It is a different ball game altogether, getting closer them and hearing their stories. Only then does the saying “The rich also cries” comes closer home.

It is the 40^th anniversary of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), and the anniversary is providing opportunity for the set man, Bishop Mike Okonkwo and the others with him, to go down memory lane.

This was just what he did last Sunday upon mounting the pulpit at the church’s auditorium, Cathedral of His Glory, in Anthony Lagos., for the day’s sermon

Amongst others, Bishop Okonkwo recalled for the congregation, the night dare-devil robbers stormed the ministry’s parsonage where he, some pastors and wife were, threatening fire and brimstone.

Apparently, the robbers came by boat trailing the creeks, and all of a sudden, they could hear desperate banging on the door, as if someone was trying to pull it down.

“We were taken unawares and we were asking, who is there. All the robbers could say was, “wait until we get in” Bishop Okonkwo recalled, describing it as an experience no one should pray to have.

He said not only did the robbers gain entry, but that the few moments they spent there was like day-long nightmare, as they were all over the place, banging, hitting and threatening.

According to him, it was his lovely wife, Peace whom God used to save the day: she just got in and brought out some jewelries from her closet which she dropped on the table for the robbers

The man of God recalled that this immediately caught the attention of the robbers and they left everything else they were doing and went for the jewellery.

Okonkwo, who at every point in the narration, underscored the mercy of God, said at long last, the robbers, marshalled by their leader left everything and escaped the way they came.  

Only then did they heave a sigh of relief.

Referencing with other undeniable evidences of God’s intervention and mercy in his personal life and ministry, Bishop Okonkwo said he could never thank God enough.
