Revealed: Mourinho Rejects Al-Shabab Despite Previous Saudi Claim 

Jose Mourinho has turned down an approach from Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab after his Roma sacking last week.

After just one victory in his previous five games, Roma fired the 60-year-old on Tuesday, leaving him jobless. Over the weekend, there were reportedly advanced talks between Al-Shabab and Mourinho about a move to Saudi Arabia. Mourinho, according to Cope Radio [via The Standard], is “waiting for an option that motivates him” and has decided against joining the team just yet.

“I will go to Saudi Arabia in some free time, but I am convinced that I will work there. I don’t know when, but I am pretty sure of it. Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there,” the Portuguese said in an interview in October.

“Cristiano was the first to go there and give a different perspective immediately. The players thought at first that it was a one-man show but they realised in the summer that everything was really changing. Many players, not just in the last period of their careers, but also some players in the best years of their careers, are coming because the competition is real, not just in the domestic League, but also the AFC Champions League is very interesting.”

Mourinho was spotted in Barcelona over the weekend, but he didn’t say why he was in Spain. The Times reports that the Portuguese manager is anticipated to return to Serie A and succeed Walter Mazzarri as Napoli’s manager.

Mourinho is “expecting” to meet with Aurelio De Laurentiis, the president of Napoli, later this week. But with Napoli taking on Inter Milan in the championship game, a victory for the I Partenopei will probably guarantee Mazzarri‘s position for the duration of the season.
