Ranking Nigerian Active Players In Premier League

Alex Iwobi and Taiwo Awoniyi both had memorable weekends. What impact did their actions have on our revised rankings?

It made sense that they played each other in the final round of Premier League games since Eberechi Eze recently replaced Alex Iwobi.

Everton was trying to get back to winning after two straight losses, and Crystal Palace was looking for a great away performance after two disappointing trips to Newcastle United and Leicester City.

We evaluate the Nigerians who appeared last weekend and in midweek in THEEAGLE‘s updated power rankings for 2022–2023 in Premier league.

#13 Malcolm Ebiowei

With 15 minutes left, the 19-year-old replaced Jordan Ayew and saw action for the first time since the opening weekend defeat at Arsenal.

At the time, Crystal Palace had already scored twice, and they gave up a third goal in their eventual 3-0 loss to Everton.

Despite his cameo, Ebiowei continues to be present.

#12 Kelechi Iheanacho

Since Leicester City’s loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in early September, “Seniorman” has not started a single game. He also sat out when the Foxes ran riot at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Dennis slides down to eighth place.

#9 Carney Chukwuemeka

The Chelsea player entered the game with 11 minutes remaining in regulation as Chelsea and Manchester United played to a 1-1 draw.

Chukwuemeka dropped from eighth place after scarcely participating in a generally dull affair.

However, Graham Potter’s decision to hire the young man instead of Hakim Ziyech or Kai Havertz was a sign of his confidence.

#8 Dominic Solanke

Injury forced Bournemouth’s key player to leave the game before halftime, but he could have given the Cherries the lead against West Ham United.

The freshly promoted team’s three-game unbeaten road streak came to an end when they were defeated 2-0 by the Hammers.

Solanke drops out of our top three.

#7 Michael Olise

In the defeat of Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, Olise had a miserable afternoon against Everton and was substituted just after the hour.

Unusually for him, the playmaker was unable to create chances on this particular day, which may have contributed to his early substitution.

Olise unavoidably slides from second.

#6 Frank Onyeka

With his team behind 3-0 at halftime against Aston Villa, Thomas Frank made changes, ending Onyeka’s third consecutive start for Brentford.

Onyeka’s presence in the last third and propensity to regain possession for the Bees made it seem severe.

Despite the early withdrawal, the midfielder holds his spot this week.

#5 Tosin Adarabioyo

Adarabioyo moves up from tenth place upon his return to the starting XI for Fulham’s 3-2 victory over Leeds United despite a number of possession turnovers.

In the Cottagers’ second away victory since recovering promotion, the center-back won nine out of ten duels, including seven aerial duels with a 100 percent success rate.

#4 Joe Aribo

After a disastrous afternoon at Manchester City, the team has since performed admirably against West Ham United, Bournemouth, and in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Aribo appeared to be a sporadic scoring danger, and his dummy was essential in Southampton’s equalizer against the Gunners.

The adaptable operator moves up from fifth.

#3 Eberechi Eze

The Crystal Palace player may have replaced Alex Iwobi two weeks ago and strengthened last week, but he was unable to make a difference as the Eagles fell to a 3-0 defeat when he faced the Everton player.

Eze stays in our top three but drops out of first place.

#2 Taiwo Awoniyi

When Nottingham Forest defeated Liverpool 1-0 at the City Ground, Awoniyi enjoyed playing against familiar opponents.

The lone goal was scored by the former Reds forward to secure Forest’s second victory since reclaiming promotion and maintain Liverpool’s barren road record.

Unavoidably, the striker moves up our rankings, from second to last.

#1 Alex Iwobi

Iwobi was back where he probably belongs as he contributed to two of Everton’s goals against Palace and was a key player in the daring back-to-front move that led to the second goal.

The only player with more assists than the Nigerian (nine), whose play for the Toffees has been nothing short of remarkable, is Kevin De Bruyne.

Iwobi has returned to the summit… It did not take long either!
