Obasa’s Removal: Lagos Lawmakers Storm DSS Office, Demand Release Of Detained Colleagues

About 30 lawmakers from the Lagos State House of Assembly have stormed the office of the Department of State Security (DSS) at Magodo Lagos demanding release of their colleagues held there.
The two members, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu and Hon. Lanre Afinni, had been invited there by the DSS, believed to be in connection with the recent removal from office of the former speaker, Mudasiru Obasa
Obasa who was removed as speaker on 13 January while he was away on vacation abroad, over several allegations, had written a petition to the DSS concerning the process of his removal.
A statement released by members of the state house of Assembly signed by Jon.Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the lawmakers, explained that their visit to the Lagos command of the DSS was to provide insights into the situation on the removal of the ex-speaker, Mudasiru Obasa.

The members stated that their action is constitutional and in the interest of the people of Lagos state which was carried out through a democratic process citing sections 92 and 96 of the 1999 constitution as amended which outline the process of election and removal of the speaker.
All the members earlier detained by the DSS have regained their freedom.
