Minister Reveals How Digitization Would Help Nigerians, MDAs

Do you know how digitization initiative of the federal government would help Nigerians, Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government and the economy?

Well, these are what the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has been discussing.

 The minister provided the insight on Thursday, at a meeting of the Nigeria National Council of ICT Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, in Abeokuta.

According to him, digitization of the economy has many benefits including bringing about proactiveness in the business of governance and also in blocking fraudulent activities in the economy thereby helping to save treasured resources in the interest of Nigerians.

That is not all, as according to him, digitization would also, help set government’s priorities right all the time, thereby leading to an improved economy.

The minister told delegates to the meeting that its purpose was actually to brainstorm on the dynamics of making all the above happen, using not only the MDAs, but other structures of government.  

He said that there was need for immediate provision of ICT infrastructure that would aid data sharing among government agencies, adding that this vision of achieving digitalisation had been codenamed DPI (Digital Public Infrastructure).

“Sharing of data is not just about fraud; the matter of data sharing in government is about effectiveness.

“If we are sharing data appropriately, we can even know how people are moving between states in Nigeria so that when there is the need to increase the capacity to support people, we can quickly do that seamlessly.

“We should start to see these benefits in the next 12 months; we will start to see changes in the way technology is being used by the government,” he added while imploring stakeholders to support the innovation to achieve true and speedy digitization in the country.

The Eagle reports that digitization is essentially the deployment of technology to transform business models and create new and innovative processes, as against use of traditional and manual procecces.

It relies on integrating digital tools and systems into various aspects of a business’s operations, and covers a wide range of activities and tasks.
