It Will Be Bleak Christmas For 233 Teachers And Their Families

It will be bleak Christmas for 233 teachers and their families as the secret of their breadwinners have just leaked.

The 233, all under the employ of the Kaduna State government, have been dismissed, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Tijjani Abdullahi has said.

Their offence: they have been tacking with fake certificates.

The unfortunate situation was made known at a media briefing in Kaduna today, by Abdullahi, who added that the state government would not go back on its resolve to conducting competency tests for public school teachers in the state.

He told journalists that the state government embarked on the certificate verification exercicise, as part of the process to ensure that those moulding the state’s future  hope possessed the required competences to do so.

Abdullahi said that 451 certificates from 13 institutions had thus far been verified by the State Universal Basic Education Board, out of which 233 certificates were discovered to be fake.

“The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) wishes to update you on recent developments in its continuous quest to improve standards in public basic education schools.

“As part of its responsibility to ensure that all teachers actually have the qualifications they presented, the Board launched a certificate verification exercise in April 2021.

“The major objective of this exercise was to ensure that all our teachers have the requisite credentials that constitute the basic qualifications for employment as teachers.

“So far, the Board has verified 451 certificates by contacting the institutions that awarded the certificates. Nine of the 13 institutions contacted have responded, as of today.

According to him, the 233 teachers with the fake certificates would not only be dismissed from the state civil service, but would also be made to face the music.

That would not be all, according to him, but the government would go ahead to upload the names 233 teachers with fake certificates on the state government’s website.

The Eagle reports that tt would indeed be a bleak Christmas for these and their families. Not only would they not expect December pay, they would also have to contend with the stigma of their action.
