Tiwa Savage

Tiwatope Savage-Balogun popularly as Tiwa Savage has being making waves in the entertainment industry way back as 2013 and many are of the opinion that she is not just a pretty face but indeed the queen of pop.

Her musical life started when she was 11 years old. While attending high school, she was a trombone player for her school’s orchestra band. Savage had a healthy upbringing; she grew up in a multicultural setting due to her migration from Nigeria to the United Kingdom, and from the United Kingdom to the United States. After graduating with a degree in Business administration from the University of Kent, Savage started working at The Royal Bank of Scotland. She did backup vocals for George Michael at the agent of 16, and lent vocals to other musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Emma Bunton, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, and Ms. Dynamite, amongst others.

An instrumentalist and Digital Marketer, Mr Kingsley Samuel is one of those who believes and supports Tiwa

“If you ask me I will simply say it is clear she is our queen of pop or who would you say is? would you say Yemi Alade who gave us zero last year 2017 or Cynthia Morgan who instead of singing is acting? now tell me. Tiwa is the queen, she deserves it, just listening to her songs, watching her strong and devoted fans and all her back to back hits proves my point”

While some support Tiwa, others don’t like her and disagree with the notion despite her qualifications

A student by the name Magdalene David is one who strongly disagree with the singer

“I would admit her love her songs but asking me if she is the queen of pop my answer is no and that is because she does not represent the Nigerian women and what we stand for. A Nigerian married with a son and goes naked or half-naked on television screen is a disgrace to our culture. I have younger siblings who love her songs but I can’t allow them watch the video of her songs because it is not good for viewing by kids”

She also added Tiwa’s videos are not viewers friendly

“Her videos can not be watched by all so it is not friendly but disgusting and if she wants to gain respect and recognition in order to be Nigeria’s queen of pop she should start putting into consideration her appearance because a good voice, good hits with out role model traits can’t make you a role model”

In his own opinion, a student, Daniel Awosoga said, “I think she’s made a lot of good contributions to the Nigerian music scene. I see her as one of the leading female artists in the country if not the number one. Her fame is big with the paparazzi and all but there are also a few artists who are very talented like Simi, Asa, Waje, Niniola who have been doing very good. This question is deep oo But I’ll say this to finish. Most Nigerians will say Tiwa is the best but it’s more than just making hits that the crowd wants to listen to. I still think Simi is a better singer than her tho but I’ll give Tiwa the crown.

“I think she’s seen as the best but she’s just one of the best. But she deserves to be queen because she’s fit for it” He opined.

According to a student, Mariam Aliyu, Tiwa Savage is the queen of pop has she’s been consistent with music.

“Yes, she is the Queen of pop, and reason is, she has been consistent with music, and bring hit back to back, even with her short coming (marital issue) she doesn’t let it get over her, and she is well-known outside the country”
