Illegal Mining: 5 Chinese Nationals Enter EFCC Net

5 Chinese nationals are now in the net of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged illegal mining activities.

The Uyo Zonal Directorate of the EFCC said the Chinese nabbed over the alleged act in Akwa Ibom State.

A statement by EFCC’s Head of Media & Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, the arrests were made at Ndito-Eka-Iba village in Ibieno Local Government Area.

They were busted following credible intelligence on foreign companies’ illegal mining activities in Eket and Ibieno Local Government Areas, as spearheaded by the EFCC’s Special Task Force

.The alleged culprits were arrested at different dates, according to the statement..

Names of the Alleged culprits as follows:

  1. Zhon Qinpingarrested September 10, 2024
  2. , Li Yi, August 29, 2024
  • Xie Bin arrested on August 29, 2024
  1. Chen Mou Zhou, August 29, 2024, and
  2. Chen Zeng arrested on August 29, 2024

According to the EFCC statement, the above named persons were allegedly caught at an illegal mining site, suspected to be extracting ilmenite, a titanium-iron oxide mineral. The suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
