How Google Accelerator Initiative Boosts Women Entrepreneurship
Women entrepreneurship appears set to engage a forward gear with the entry into the sector of the Google Accelerator Initiative.
The global brand chose an auspicious moment to drive in – in the course of this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day, when it announced three new initiatives aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in Africa.
The initiatives is all about providing them the needed resources to succeed.
The Eagle reports that Africa’s real sector has been up against several gargantuan challenges for decades; finance, low level technology and poor infrastructure among others there, but with Google entering the fray, some relieve is expected.

The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa: Women Founders Cohort, the Hustle Academy for Women-Led SMEs, and a social media series celebrating inspiring women in Africa’s technology sector, are the schemes that may bring about the fillip.
Head of Startup Ecosystem, Africa for the company, Folarin Aiayegbusi, said, “We are thrilled to announce the selected startups for the inaugural class of our Google for Startups Accelerator Africa: Women Founders Cohort.
“These women are tackling some of Africa’s most pressing challenges, and we’re excited to support them as they build the future.”
From reports, the Google’s Hustle Academy is a boot camp-style training programme that targets enhancing the revenue potential of entrepreneurs.

It should also impact on the ability to attract investment, and position their enterprises on the path of sustainability.
Benefitting African countries include Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya, where the Google Company plans to host six women-focused cohorts.
This it is doing as part of its contribution to the celebration of the International Women’s Day.
The initiative encouraged women entrepreneurs from the region to participate, by loging in to a given platform.
For the Google #WomeninIT social media series, the idea is to celebrate inspiring women in Africa’s technology sector.
With the stories of six African entrepreneurs billed to be told, others are expected to be inspired into the entrepreneurship circle.

Speaking further on how Google accelerator initiative plans to boost women entrepreneurship, Head of Communications, Google Africa Dorothy Ooko, said: “At Google, we are committed to providing women entrepreneurs in Africa with access to funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
“Through our programmes, we aim to bridge the gap and empower women to succeed in their respective fields.”
