It was indeed a typical case of how an evangelism mission ended in tragedy. Yet the whole essence of it was to save lives and reconcile souls to God

The missionaries first made contact by dropping gifts to their targets by aircraft. Thinking that a relationship had been established by virtue of those gifts, Jim Elliot and his team proceeded to try a physical contact.

The stage is set, of how evangelism mission ended in tragedy.

This is because when the missionaries landed, it was unto a different spectacle.

They had been ambushed. A group of Auca worriors armed with spears and ready to throw, accosted them.

Jim Elliot reached for a gun in his pocket, but he knew instantly that it would not be used.

Each of the missionaries had promised beforehand, that they would never kill an Auca. How would they, understanding their faith and mission. In fact, how would they kill an Auca who did not know Jesus in order to save themselves?

Ironically, the missionaries were brutally murdered by the savages they spared.

Thus, an evangelism mission ended in tragedy, did it really end?

. Well, the love of Christ had motivated the missionaries ‘ actions, and this was to trigger divergent reactions.

There was no let to the gospel. It was continued by the wives of the slain missionaries.

It was Tertullian who said that the blood of martyrs is the seed of revival. With full names as Quintus Florens Tertullianus, as recorded by Wikipedia was a prolific early Christian author from Carthage in the Roman province of Africa, a man of Berber origin who seem to have been justified in his submission by the fact that in less than two years, many of the Huaorani Indians had been converted to Christ, following a revival that broke out in that region of Ecuador.

In a twist of irony or is it paradox, one of the slain missionaries Nate Saint had his son baptised by Mimcaye, the man who killed him. The writer’s mother inlaw, Mrs Marian Fayemi usually opined that Christians should be careful not to allow anyone kill them, as after is irretrievably done, God would forgive the murderer if they repent.

The story above appears to justify her standpoint, but much more, it shows that the love of God cannot be fully understood.

It is bigger, deeper higher, broader, and more powerful than any knowledge that one could ever acquire.
