- My brother, some people say it is hard times caused by inflation; some say bad policy, me, I don’t know which one to call it, but if I tell you that it is not affecting us, I am telling a bid lie.
Well, I am the housewife, and as a Christian, I know that it is for a while, and it will pass.
We are praying more than ever before, but also, I am taking some measures at home.

My niece stays with us, and I am no longer allow her to cook, unless I am not back from the office.
She is still coming up and she does not know how to manage things in the kitchen like me. We are saving a lot from that.

2. The way I am coping with the hard times is this: I forced my husband to repair our freezer. My boy, the last one can waste food unless you shout for him to eat, sometimes too, my first daughter. Unlike before, I dish out small portions for them. Anything that is left, I quickly go and put in the freezer. It is not a laughing matter because especially if my boy refuses to touch his food, it can become a waste. Before we used to throw so much food away, and you can imagine how much money we were throwing away.

- One thing we are enjoying in this area Wadoye, Lambe is regular light; it is helping me. Myself and my husband work late hours, we leave early and close late, so I make sure I preserve the food in the freezer. I just dish out portions for my children, enough until we come back in the evening towards night.

- For many years, my colleague, we also live in the same area in Oke-ira (Ogba) used to disturb me that we should be going to Oyinbo to be buying stuff. I only started in September, and I thank God, because we can buy almost all the ingredients in bulk there. Crayfish, smoked fish, stockfish, rice even egusi and ogbono. The first time I went with N30, 000, and I was surprised. The things we bought is like using N80, 000 to buy them. I will advise any housewife who wants to survive the hard times to do the same, instead of buying small small, and wasting much money. I may also visit Mile 12 market and other markets in Lagos.

Two things I am doing now. Don’t laugh because sometimes, we used to neglect some important things. Do you know that with enough crayfish, the family can still enjoy some foods. I make sure I buy and grind enough crayfish. So, whatever I am cooking, it is there, and it is even nutritious and healthy. Also, I can mix other native ingredients like iru with it, especially for local soup.

- My husband and I sat down recently to discuss the whole thing, because he said I was spending more money on feeding. He was angry and me too, I was angry that he was not increasing the money for feeding. But later, I now told myself, never to waste anything, to be more wise because of the way things were going. I eat only when it is necessary, not that I will be waiting for 8am for breakfast, 2pm for launch and 7 or 8pm for dinner. We use do a lot of snacks before, but even the children know, no snacks like before. Except it will take the place of food. It was not easy before but the hard times has forced us to skip meals when necessary.
