When the local government election holds in July 12, one of the contestants would be AbdulGaniyu Obasa, son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

A political group, Agege Youth Vanguard, has just purchased the N5m chairmanship nomination form for him.

Coordinated by Ismael Garba, the group called a press conference where it addressed the issue of purchasing the form for the younger Obasa to enable him participate in the election.

“Our interest is not about personal gain or to make Agege any political leader’s private fiefdom as may be insinuated in some quarters.

“We will all agree that the change we desire in Nigeria can only be achieved when the country is in good hands; and key to the development of a nation is its grassroots management.”

“We have put our money where our mouth is by contributing N5m among our members to buy APC nomination form for AbdulGaniyu to enable him to contest for the party primary.”

“Obasa is well-educated and competent. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Hertfordshire in England, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from Aston University, Birmingham.

In terms of professional experience, he presented the younger Obasa as having worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Providus Bank Limited, and Parallex Bank Limited.

“That his father is the Speaker of the State House of Assembly should not deny the community of a competent leader,” he argued.
