As much as the economy is biting, a parent who converts her ward to a vegetable hawker might not know the enormity of risk they are taking.

One such error, has seen a child of just 4 being kidnapped in Abuja and brought to Owerri to be sold for N2.7million.

The alleged masterminds of the kidnap, Joy Ugwu from Idah, Kogi State, and Rosella Michael of Zamba in Abuja, are already in the hands of the police while a third accomplice a nurse, is currently on the run.

spokesperson, of the Imo State Police command, DSP Henry Okoye said the the suspects were arrested in Owerri, through  a discreet operation while they were trying to sell the boy for N2.7m.

He credited the arrest to the joint efforts of the Imo State Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja.

“Investigations revealed that the boy, Jaffa Umar, who speaks Hausa fluently, was abducted in Abuja while hawking vegetables”, he said, adding:

“The child has been safely reunited with his family through coordinated efforts between the Imo State Police Command and Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja while the suspects have been transferred to the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassures the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and dismantling trafficking networks. He encourages residents to report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the emergency line 0803 477 3600,” Okoye said.
