A female soldier may have landed herself in trouble for publicly accepting the love overtures of a male youth corper

The public romantic display of the two has been rocking the social media, and now the Nigerian Army has confirmed its detention of the unnamed female soldier involved.

The love birds had enacted their open show of affection at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, and the matter has been attracting divergent reactions.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, who is the Director of Army Public Relations, has said that the female officer violated military laws by getting involved in a public display of amorous relationship with a paramilitary trainee..

Nwachukwu was quoted by Sunday Punch as saying that what the female soldier in the eyes of the army did, amounted to taking advantage of her trainee.

The Eagle reports that friends and colleagues had captured and posted the very moment the corper held out a ring before the female soldier and kneeling to ask her hands in marriage.

Whereas the scenario has been a thrill to many, confirming a notion that true love knows no borders, the Army authorities seem to have a different view of the drama.

To it, the soldier violated the Army’s rules and regulations guiding the codes of conduct of military personnel when deployed for duty.

Saying this much, Nwachukwu said the female soldier’s action amounted to taking advantage of her trainee, noting that the public would have been outraged and accused the Army of coercion had a male soldier proposed to a female corper during NYSC parade.

“2. A personnel must have served for three years before he/she can qualify for marriage.

“The Nigerian Military like all others, has its disciplinary codes, distinct from that of the general society. Every personnel has voluntarily undertaken to be bound by this code.”
