Dear Sir, Help Us Concerning Bad Roads In Akoka LCDA

It is with due respect and honour to your office but with a heart full of pains and grievance that I write to you today.

Sir, without taking much of your time, it is about the situation of our roads in our area Akoka Local Council Development Area (LCDA): it is in a bad state.

In fact, it has become a nightmare to those who use it, and the entire Unilag (University of Lagos) students.

The road is no longer motor-able and we are crying out loud for help.

The state  of this road has brought about many changes; it has led to increase in transportation fare. It also causes delay due to potholes and bumps,  constant accidents and fighting among road users.

Various roads within Akoka LCDA were newly rehabilitated, but most of them still remain of poor quality and have already started fading away within a short time of their reconstruction.

Also, the area always looks like a refuse dump site any time it rains because of the decayed state of the  drainage.

The drainage work was majorly abandoned and this poses a great threat to the pedestrians.

This poor state of the road has caused heavy flooding in various parts of the area

Sir, I also want mention the issue of poor construction works done by the contractors handling various road projects.  

It is shameful that in less than two years of construction, many of the roads are already fading away especially the road St Finbarrs-University Road, where I live.

The surface of the road is broken by the heavy rains. The first showers of July break put the road in its worst shape. We are in deep distress on this account. Mere trekking can easily trigger an acute tachycardia.

Below are  the views of the two people I interviewed concerning the road :

“We usually loose our strength each time we trek on the road to school and the state of the road is so bizarre”

“Severally, I have fell down on this road please our Government should looks into this matter seriously and take prompt and necessary action to save us of this problem ”.

I cannot but appeal to the relevant Councillor in Shomolu Local Government  tohelp  provide good road network. I personally feel sorry for the pregnant mothers plying these bad roads on daily basis because as I was told, some expectant mothers have had miscarriage because of the bad road.

In the wake of the recent heavy rainfall, the issue of bad roads in Akoka LCDA has become a pertinent matter – requiring urgent lasting solution – as floods threaten to destroy our homes and properties.
