Consumer Agency Seals Chinese Supermarket Which Barred Nigerian Shoppers

An Abuja-based Chinese supermarket has received the ire of a Nigerian consumer agency for barring Nigerian shoppers.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has just sealed the supermarket.

Located within within the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja, the supermarket had trended in the last one day for adamantly refusing Nigerian shopper who desired to patronise it.

The FCCPC officials shut the supermarket after interrogating Nigerian workers at the supermarket.

Before then, some of the workers who had expressed dismay at the discriminatory treatment of their compatriots could not say for certain however the reason behind the show of discrimination.

There are reports that the officials of the supermarket have fled, apparently uncertain what fate awaited, them.

However reports earlier on the matter had shown a clear show of discrimination by the officials, who had instructed their Nigerian workers to disallow Nigerian shoppers.

A report identified the Chinese lady owner of the supermarket as Cindy Liu Bei.

She is reported to have fled on Monday at 8:26 am, an assertion proven bya Closed-Circuit Television camera.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported on Sunday that the supermarket had implemented a controversial policy restricting entry solely to Chinese nationals, excluding Nigerians from patronising the establishment.
