Can you imagine the six persons that gunmen just adducted on their way to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja?

Six Directors of the Federal Ministry of Defence, information reaching us has indicated, another way of sending signal of daring situation.

The six directors were abducted yesterday on their way to Abuja from Lagos. Their mission was a Directorate-level promotion examination, which they were expected to participate in.

The daring gunmen have however put a pause to the mission in a most audacious manner.

The camp of the Defence Ministry and the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) are particularly alarmed by the development.

Beyond that, the ASCSN President, Shehu Mohammed, and the Secretary-General, Joshua Apebo, have reacted to the development.

In a statement, they said efforts to secure the release of the six directors were in earnest urging colleagues and family members not to panic.

Their statement has identified those kidnapped to be Mrs. Ngozi Ibeziakor, Mrs. C.A. Emeribe, Mrs. C. Helen Ezeakor, Mrs. C.A. Ladoye, Mrs. J.A. Onwuzurike, and Mrs. Catherine O. Essien, all members of staff of Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Ojo, Lagos.

“We have always advised the Federal Civil Service Commission to conduct promotion examinations in the states instead of compelling public service employees to travel long distances to Abuja,” the statement added.

“The current security situation and deplorable road conditions expose workers to grave risks.”

It said the government should also decentralise all promotion and verification exercises henceforth, as a way of averting risks to lives.
