Breaking: Men Also At Risk Of Breast Cancer

If you are a man and have been thinking that you are not at the risk of breast cancer, you may have to think again.

This is because it has been revealed by those who know that it is not only women that are at the risk of of it.

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdullah Yussuf, who made the revelation, has thus urged men to also go for the screening.

Professor Yusuf’s stunning revelation was a major fallout of the ‘Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness’ programme held at Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, with the theme “No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone”.

The programme which held at the University of Ilorin was organised in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, as part of the activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital

Professor Bilyaminu Abayomi, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UITH, listed possible causes of breast cancer thus:

  1. harmful use of alcohol
  2. family history,
  3. 4. history of radiation exposure,
  4. reproductive history
  5. tobacco use
  6. postmenopausal hormone therapy
  7. age
  8. obesity

How to contain Breast Cancer

Speaking on the best way of dealing with the ailment he listed certain things:

  1. No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone
  2. raise awareness
  3. drive behaviour change against the stigmatisation of those with the disease
  4. sensitisation is to facilitate knowledge sharing
