Bitter Politics – How Man Was Matcheted To Death Putting On Party Cap

Bitter politics have showed up in Idanre, Ondo State as a man has reportedly been matcheted to death because he put on the cap of a rival political party.

Many others have equally been injured in the political clash which ensued between supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, The Eagle can report.

Fracas began when the deceased, identified as Taye, a member of the Zenith Labour Party in the town was challenged by the supporters of APC for putting on the ZLP cap.

A leader of the ZLP in the town alleged that those who attacked and killed Taye were led by one Sunday Ogundiroyo, aka (Agarahu), Bola Akinniranye and others.

Seeing one of them fallen, members of the ZLP immediately mobilized in demonstrations by the popular Alade Regional Market disrupting activities there.

The tense atmosphere forced leaders from both sides into an emergency meeting to find a solution, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Idanre.

Dr Kola Ademujimi , who is the Director-General of the ZLP governorship candidate campaign organisation, was one of those trying to ensure peace.

He also appealed to the police to do all possible to prosecute those behind the murder.

On the other hand, Alex Kalejaye who is the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, is absolving his party of culpability in the murder.

He instead urged the police to investigate the matter as to establish those behind the killing.

The police however said it had brought the matter under control, but residents are worried at the level of disorder displayed by the party supporters in the mayhem.

Many are of the view, that beyond just the recent incident, that there is a need for lasting measures to checkmate bitter politics not in the state particularly and the nation generally.
