Thiago Silva, a seasoned Chelsea defender, could miss out on playing in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday.

Due to his injury, Thiago Silva is unlikely to play in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool. Silva sustained his groyne injury during Chelsea’s 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace on February 12.

The Brazilian was declared ineligible to play against the reigning Premier League winners, Manchester City, before of Chelsea’s match against them last weekend, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino. He further claimed that the defender’s condition was assessed on a daily basis.

In the absence of the 39-year-old, Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill paired up in central defence. The young defensive duo had an impressive outing, with Disasi declared the Man of the Match.

Former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain defender Silva has played in three domestic cup finals since joining the Blues: the FA Cup in 2021 and 2022, and the Carabao Cup in 2022. He has lost all three of these finals.

It is uncertain whether the Brazil international will be ready to play on Sunday at Wembley. His contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the current campaign, so the Carabao Cup final might be his last opportunity to bring home a trophy.
