A critical document involved in a country’s international trade, that any importer must be familiar with, is the import prohibition list.

Import trade as well as other kinds of trade in any country, is subject to rules and regulations. Such regulations take due cognisance of both the economic and health interests of the country, as well as its diplomatic engagements.

And as the name indicates, it is simply a list of products never to be imported into the country a breach of which would attract sanctions.,

An understanding of items in the import prohibition list helps importers to be properly guided as not to fall foul of the import policies existent in their country.

Here are a list of items in the Nigerian import prohibition list as provided by the Nigeria Customs Service.

IMPORT PROHIBITION LIST

-Live or Dead Birds including Frozen Poultry

-Birds Eggs, excluding hatching eggs

-Refined Vegetable Oils and [but excluding refined Linseed, Castor and Olive oils.

Crude vegetable oil are however NOT banned from importation]

Cane or Beet Sugar and Chemically Pure Sucrose, in solid form containing added flavouring or colouring matter in retail packs

-Cocoa Butter, Powder and Cakes

-Spaghetti/ Noodles

-Fruit Juice in Retail Packs

-Waters, including Mineral Waters and Aerated Waters containing added Sugar or Sweetening Matter or Flavoured, ice snow  other non-alcoholic beverages  but excluding energy or Health Drinks {Liquid Dietary Supplements} e.g. Power Horse, Red Ginseng etc.]

and Beer and Stout (Bottled, Canned or Otherwise packed)
