Anxiety Heightens Over 11 Kidnapped Journalists,1 Dead

There is heightened anxiety within media circles over news of 11 kidnapped journalists, with 1 already reported dead.

The journalists were kidnapped in the Isseke community of Ihiala Local Government Area in Anambra State on their way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover the Nigeria Libya African Cup of Nations qualifying match coming up on Saturday.

“Joint security forces have successfully rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo along the Isseke-Orlu Road in Ihiala”, Punch reported spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga as saying.

“Meanwhile, operations are still ongoing for the possible rescue of the seventh crew member.

“Further developments shall be communicated”, he added.
