Ajadi Commends Soyinka’s Role On Igboho’s Release From Prison

Mr Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a contender in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, has expressed delight in the release from detention, of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

He has also commended Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka and Prof Adebanji Akintoye for the roles they played in the release of Igboho.

Ajadi, in a release signed by his media advisor and campaign strategist, Cami Ezenwa, descried the release as a welcome news, commending the two professors for their mediatory roles.

According to him, Igboho’s release represented an answer to prayer, and manifestation of the good wishes of the generality of people desirous of the progressive movement of the nation.

Ajadi said the two Yoruba leaders, have, in their interventions demonstrated true statesmanship for which they had won many hearts.

“You know statesmen when issues of this nature arise. I personally like and salute the consistency of Prof Soyinka.

“He has always shown that he is a true statesman. He is always advising the government and he speaks up anytime there are national issues. That is the kind of people Nigeria needs”, the release quotes Ajadi as saying.

He also commended the umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, which first announced Igboho’s release, leading to excitement in many quarters especially within the Southwest geopolitical zone of the country.

“There are reports that the conditions of his release are tough to meet, but at least, he is free for now, and I know that efforts would be made towards total release” Ajadi said.

The Punch newspaper in a report on the release, had observed challenges in the conditions attached to the release, with an opinion credited to a lawyer thus:

“The conditions are not too tough. He won’t hold any rally and can’t leave Cotonou”.

The report also adds that counsel for the activist, Chief Yomi Aliyyu, SAN, said two of the condition were that Igboho should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou.

He said, “I am to inform all the followers of Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Igboho Oosa that he has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should neither leave the medical centre nor Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities — Prof Soyinka and Prof Akintoye for this turnaround in our client’s matter.”

Ajadi, a national executive officer of the Youths Democratic Party of Nigeria (YDPN), an offshoot of the last EndSARS protests, is also the national president of the All Youths Reoriented Movement of Nigeria.
