232 international students receive the SI Scholarships
Every year, the Swedish Institute grants fully funded scholarships for master’s studies at Swedish universities. For the academic year 2026/2027, 232 individuals from 33 countries have been awarded scholarships through the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals and the SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM.
Empowering Future Leaders And Changemakers
The Swedish Institute’s scholarship programmes are directed towards professionals with work and leadership experience, aiming to strengthen their capacity and competence to contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievements, professional and leadership experiences, and their potential to contribute to long-term development. 12,922 individuals applied for SI scholarships this year, marking a 50 per cent increase from last year.
189 Recipients Awarded The SI Scholarship For Global Professionals
The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals is awarded to 189 recipients for programmes within STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), innovation and entrepreneurship, public health, and governance.

43 Women Receive The SI Scholarship Pioneering Women In STEM
The Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship is awarded to 43 recipients and aims to promote greater diversity and inclusion within the STEM sector. The scholarship is available for selected master’s programmes with a focus on the STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The recipients come from 10 countries in Africa and Asia.
Madeleine Sjöstedt, General Director of the Swedish Institute, shares the importance of the scholarship and welcomes this year’s recipients:

“The fact that the number of applications has increased by more than 50 per cent clearly demonstrates that Swedish higher education and Swedish expertise are highly attractive internationally.
“Higher education—particularly within STEM fields—plays a crucial role in driving the green transition forward. We look forward to welcoming this year’s scholarship recipients and following their future professional journey’.
