We’ve Commenced Movement Of Sensitive Materials But..-INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has commenced movement of sensitive electoral materials for Saturday’s elections.

It has also called on Nigerians to have the belief that their votes in the 2023 general elections would count.

The chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave an update at the signing of 3rd Peace Accord by political parties and their Presidential Candidates today in Abuja.

Expatiating on the movement of sensitive materials, he added that the commission would take exception to anyone flouting the rules of the contest.

“Campaign for Presidential and National Assembly elections ends at midnight tomorrow Thursday Feb. 23. Election will hold on Saturday this week.

“INEC is ready. This morning, we commenced the movement of sensitive materials to the various Local Government Areas nationwide.

“By Friday, we will activate the Registration Area Centres (RACs) so that at first light on Saturday, polling units will open on time.

“The Commission is committed to free, fair and credible elections in compliance with the electoral legal framework and the letter and spirit of the Peace Accord.

“ All political parties and candidates are hereby reassured of the Commission’s neutrality. Above all, Nigerians should feel confident that their votes will count.”

He spoke amidst appeals by former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan on all key stakeholders to embrace the politics of peace.

Jonathan spoke at the signing of 3rd peace accord for all political party leaders and their presidential candidate, organised by the National Peace Committee (NPC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

He urged presidential candidates and political party leaders particularly to respect the voice of Nigerians as would be expressed at the polls.

“Our country needs a stable and reliable democracy to be able to adequately address its challenges and provide the desired leadership that meets the expectations of our teeming populace.

“The world looks up to us to get our democracy right and become a force to be reckoned with in the leadership recruitment and governance process”, Jonathan, who was represented by Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, said.
