Kidnappers Release Abducted Umuahia Radio Presenter, Iwuoha

Kidnappers have released a presenter with the Pacesetter FM radio station, Umuahia, Chineye Iwuoha whom they abducted.

The news of her release, has sent jubilation round the town especially within media circles which were most hit by the kidnap.

Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede, who announced the development in a telephone interview said she was released unhurt.

The kidnappers had earlier demanded N20million but the police boss said the On-Air-Personality (OAP) was released unconditionally, following police pressure on them.

The Eagle reports that the presenter had spent three days with the kidnappers having been whisked away on May 4, 2020, while she was on her way home from work, with her colleagues including the station’s general manager when they were attacked by the gunmen who then abducted. Iwuoha.

The kidnap occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on the Amakama axis of the Umuahia-Ururuka-Aba Road near the popular Amakama Housing Estate, and saw the driver of the Hilux van shot in the stomach.

In response, the Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, directed the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Janeth Agbede, to immediately smoke out her abductors and rescue her unharmed forthwith.

With this, CP Agbede, may have scored her first on the new job having taken over from CP Ene Okon.

Her remarks upon taking over was to warn criminals in Abia to flee from the state or face the full wrath of the law.

She told newsmen that she was under a specific instruction to clear Abia of crimes and criminalities.

“I’m here to make Abia a crime-free state. Henceforth, the residents of the state will sleep with their two eyes closed and in that manner enjoy the state fully.”

The Commissioner of Police assured that the recent wave of killings in the state by men in uniform will stop.

“I’ll build on the existing structures I met on ground by ensuring the maintenance of law and order in the state,”

“Women are sensitive to their environment and always eager to maintain peace and orderliness wherever they find themselves. Therefore, as a woman, I’ll do well”, she had said in response to reporters’ questions.

Married with children, Agbede was before her appointment as CP Abia State, the Commissioner of Police, Welfare, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. She is from Ondo State.
