Your Plea To JAMB A Waste Of Time, Registrar To HND Graduates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has told Higher National Diploma (HND) students begging to be allowed mobilisation they are wasting their time.

This is the latest from the admission body which spoke through its Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

Ishaq was in a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS at JAMB headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday

He said they were wasting their time appealing to JAMB, but should rather direct their pleas to the National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC).

According to him, JAMB would not do anything about the non-mobilisation of polytechnic graduates as it does not oversee the admission of HND students and therefore has no role in their mobilisation for the NYSC.

“You are wasting your time talking to someone who has no involvement in the matter. If something affects you, the first step is to identify the root cause so that you don’t apply the wrong solution to a problem that does not exist,” Oloyede said.

“We admit students for ND programmes. Once you graduate and seek HND admission, JAMB has no further role. HND admissions are conducted by individual institutions,” he added.

“NBTE asks them to admit 100 students for instance, they will take that 100 and register them for full time  ND. They will take another 1000 and they will be teaching them in the same class and will say those ones are part-time.,” he said.

He stated the challenge of correlating the HND certificates the students have acquired and their ND certificates, adding:

“Go and study the problem in detail, and if you do, you will find the solution,” he advised.

On the allegation of corruption levelled against staffers of the board, Professor Oloyede said:

“About 99 percent of JAMB staff are honest, but any bad eggs will be identified and dealt with appropriately,” Oloyede stated.

The Eagle reports that, with the ongoing development, assuring HND graduates that their certificate was equivalent to a degree has become even more difficult.
