You Must Not Come Near This Land, Gov Orders Warring Communities

You must not come near this land under contest, a concerned governor has directed warring communities in the state, disagreeing over land ownership .

Governor Ademola Adeleke gave the warning to Ilobu and Ifon communities, on the heels of loss of lives and property over the land..

The Eagle reports that those thus far dead were as a result of stray bullets from security men who had been mobilised there to keep the peace.

The Otun-jagun of Ilobu, a traditional leader from one of the warring communities, told journalists that the crisis had already claimed four lives including a baby from Ilobu.

IT is believed that four other casualties had come from the other side, although The Eagle could not independently confirm the figures as at press time.

An alternative source said as at Thursday that accessing both Ilobu and Ifon was not possible as security operatives, had been mobilized to secure the place. The Otun-Jagun of Ilobu, Chief Leke Ogunsola, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of Ilobu community added: “The government intervention is not enough because of security agencies that were drafted to the area stationed themselves at Ojutu bridge.

“They didn’t enter the town where the clashes happened. So far, from Ilobu community, we have recorded four fatalities including a baby,” Ogunsola said.

The casualty figure on the side of Ifon people could not be immediately obtained but there are reported pictures of four different corpses.

Addressing journalists, the Secretary, Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union, Board of Trustees, Prince Jide Akinyooye, said several houses were razed during the attack on the town.

He spoke on behalf of the Ifon community.

The governor’s directive is expected to stabilise frayed tempers between the warring communities.
