A potential early exit from the World Cup was earlier branded ‘a disaster times 10’ for the Germans – with some warning it could spell the end for Flick’s run as coach, a report in the daily mail said..

They last reached the last 16 at Euro 2020 but were beaten 2-0 by England.

The humiliating elimination will be well received by England fans after a long and well documented rivalry between the two sides.

It came to the competition as hot favourites but ended up breaking a lot of hearts for reason of poor performance. It finished bottom in Group F, the first time Germany have failed to make it through the opening round of the tournament since 1938.

That it had featured in every edition between 1954 and 2018, did not now smoulder the smear of that huge loss.
