Why We’re Dragging FMC Medical Director To Court –All Nigerian Youths

All Youths Reoriented Initiative of Nigeria (AYRION), had given reasons why it is dragging the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) Abeokuta, Professor Abduls-Semiu Adewale Musa, to the Federal High Court, there

ARIYON stated its grievances in a press release sent to our corespondent, accusing the medical director of abuse of office on several grounds.

The organisation accused Prof Musa of illegally using two different declarations of age in public service ostensible to circumvent the public service law on retirement age, the possession of educational certificates with irreconcilable names and .illegally granting his biological son, study leave with pay, even when he was not entitled to it.

AYRION said it had already taken the matter to court,via  a suit number FHC/AB/FMC/100/21, filed on August 31, 2021, declaring the Federal Ministry of Health as the first respondent while the Medical Director of FMC as the second respondent.

AYRION President, Mr. Olufemi Ajadi, said the association decided to sue Prof Adewale Musa following several allegations of illegality and abuse of office levelled against him from both the public and the internal workers of the FMC.

Ajadi reiterated that the allegations bothered on irregularity in age declaration, illegal recruitment, diversion of funds, unlawful employment of his son, Babatunde, and allegedly granting him study with pay to an European country, with huge allowances.

“This suit is initiated in the interest of the public, to enforce the fundamental rights of the Applicant and that of millions of poor, hapless, exploited and disadvantaged Nigerian citizens, especially the youths who are daily being dehumanised by consequences of administrative and financial lawlessness of bad governance…”

“We are using this case to show Nigerian youths how to engage the government to serve well without involving themselves in violence. There are many ways to confront the government without engaging in the street protest,” he said.

Ajadi said AYRION’s stance was that the medical director had betrayed the confidence reposed on him by the citizens to manage their affairs, adding that the use of two different declarations of age in public service and possession of different certificates with irreconcilable names were in themselves reprehensible.

He said those antics showed the Medical Director unfit to occupy the  position, in fact unqualified to hold any public office at all in the Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs)  of Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

It referred to earlier reports on the matter by the Punch newspaper and an online medium, indicating that the chairman of the FMC board, had sent letters and reminders on the need to suspend Musa-Olomu, but to no avail.

“A letter obtained by our correspondent and signed by the Secretary, Investigative Committee, Ministry of Health, Ajayi Olajumoke, showed that the FMC Head of Administration was invited to answer questions on the matter.

“The letter, titled, ‘Falsification of Age and Other Petitions Against Prof. Adewale Musa-Olomu, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta: Invitation to Appear Before an Investigative Committee,’ was dated May 7, 2021”.

Further referencing with the Punch letter, the youths body added: “’The board filed its report and wrote a letter to the Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, presenting all the evidence with public service rules that were breached. This was done in April 2021, and we wrote at least three reminders to the ministry. But the board was ignored.

‘In March, we requested permission from the minister to suspend the MD pending the determination of the case against him. Instead, the board received a reply from an assistant state minister of health that we should go and reconcile ourselves.

We said how could we do this when we did not initiate the petitions? We are not fighting the MD. The board said that if that is their response, they should put it into writing, but no response,’ the source said.
