Why The Islamic Community Is Grieving The Death of Ajani Bello

The Islamic Community in Nigeria has been thrown into a state of mourning over the death of highly respected Islamic lecturer Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello.

Alhaji Bello was popularly called Oniwasi Agbaye (Global Lecturer) because of his fiery sermons and unwavering commitment to truth; he had become one of the most notable Islamic Clerics in Nigeria.

Alhaji Ajani Bello was born in January 6,1940 at Offa Igbo in Lagelu local government area Ibadan, Oyo state into the Arolu family.

His father Baba Bello was a great hunter and his mother was a trader who sold variety of foodstuffs in the town of Offa Igbo during her time.

Alhaji Bello went to Mahadul Arabiy Al-Islamiy Arabic Institute, Elekuro Ibadan Nigeria, where he learnt about Islamic studies.

After graduating he became a teacher in Ansaru Deen high school Saki,Oyo state.

He was later in promoted to Ansaru Deen Kano Branch as a member but later became Missioner.

Baba stayed in Kano for 50 years and made impact on the Islamic community there, before coming back to Ibadan to establish his own Islamic School in Akobo Oju-Irin Ibadan and also built his house in the same area.

The demise of the Icon was confirmed by son who is among his followers Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello popular called Aponle Anobi who shared it through Facebook with the image Alhaji Ajani Bello with some crying Emojis.

He was famous for his dynamic and fearless approach to preaching, with his sermons addressing injustice, corruption and immorality which make him to be well respected across borders.

He has contributed greatly to Islam and society by donating to charity initiatives and educational programmess for under-privileged children and has promoted Islamic values by advocating for peace, tolerance and adherence to Islamic principles.

He also advocated family values, integrity and accountability.

He was a dedicated leader, mentor who guided many young Scholars and Preachers to uphold the principles of their faith

Alhaji Ajani Bello was vocal against corruption and bad governance, he challenged leaders to prioritise love of citizens according to Islamic teachings and way.

Alhaji Ajani Bello held the title of Sulthonil Waa’izeen (King of Preachers) in Yorubaland, conferred by the Supreme Council for Islamic Preachers in Southwest Nigeria.

He was appointed to this post because of his courageous and fearless preaching style dedicated to the truth despite any government in power.

He was known to have battled old age sicknesses coupled with stroke.
