Why is JD Vance, the running mate to Donald Trump in the United States’ election is in the eye of the storm, not just trending on social media?

Very easy question for most Americans but not typically so for folks elsewhere, and who, who may not have been following the United States election.

It is because Vance in expressing his right of free speech, had spoken up before now, about two touchy social issues in the country, women and children as well as taxation, and now there is a backlash.

He is reported in the US media as previously saying that Americans who don’t have children should be taxed at a higher rate than those who do.

“Let’s tax the things that are bad and not tax the things that are good,” Vance said on The Charlie Kirk Show in 2021, a report gleaned on Newsweek said.

“If you’re making $100,000, $400,000 a year and you’ve got three kids, you should pay a different lower tax rate than if you’re making the same amount of money, and you don’t have any kids.”

These were his comments three years ago but they appear to have returned to hunt him, for as they say, the internet does not forget.

JD Vance had as at then, lampooned the Vice President Kamala Harris leadership style and policies, being the likely Democratic nominee, who was among some others who do not have biological children.

“We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats” by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too,” he said in a Fox News interview while running for Senate in Ohio.

With the stage set for the elections, many are calling him out, criticizing Trump for settling for JD Vance.

The Hill which carried a report on this has reported that some Republicans had spoken to it on condition of anonymity .

“There are, to be sure, plenty of Vance supporters in the House GOP conference, particularly hard-line conservatives — including those in the House Freedom Caucus — who favor the populist, America First perspective that the vice presidential nominee espouses. And the Trump campaign is vigorously defending the pick.

But Republicans who spoke to The Hill — including veteran lawmakers, moderates and Reagan-styled conservatives who support a muscular foreign policy — said a much larger number of their colleagues harbor doubts about Vance.

“He was the worst choice of all the options. It was so bad I didn’t even think it was possible,” one House Republican said. “Anti-Ukraine, more of a populist. He adds nothing to the Trump ticket. He energizes the same people that love Trump.”

“I think if you were to ask many people around this building, 9 out of 10 on our side would say he’s the wrong pick,” a second House Republican said. “He’s the only person who can do serious damage.”

A third House Republican — who said “there is major dissension” to Vance in the conference — argued that if Trump falls short to Vice President Harris in November, Trump’s vice presidential selection will be to blame.

“The prevailing sentiment is if Trump loses, [it’s] because of this pick,” the lawmaker said. “It doesn’t help.

Jennifer Aniston, following on the others, shared a screenshot of Vance’s appearance on her Instagram stories, and wrote, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.”

However, Senator JD Vance’s aunt, Lori Meibers has risen up in defence of the Senator, as reported exclusively by Newsweek:

“As you know, he was raised without a father figure. My mother, Bonnie Vance – or Mamaw, as we know her – his sister, Lindsay, and myself all coalesced around him to raise him ourselves,” she said.

“My own daughters have chosen significant others that resemble the man JD is, and that brings me incredible joy to know that he has had such a lasting impact on them.”
