MTN Nigeria’s 25th anniversary celebration has drawn criticism from customers and subscribers, who took to social media to express dissatisfaction with the company’s network, data services and alleged deductions.
The telecommunications company, in a post on X on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, celebrated its 25-year journey in Nigeria through its Y’ello Street activation.
It described Y’ello Street as a celebration of its “25 years of products, moments, people and memories,” highlighting the company’s journey and relationship with Nigerians.
However, the anniversary post attracted a wave of complaints from subscribers, who accused the company of poor network service, rapid data depletion and other customer service issues.
One subscriber, Brightlarsson, complained that MTN’s data “did not last even if is 2 days,” while another user, Popular_Xperience, accused the company of allegedly “thieving” customers’ data.
A subscriber, Usman Bishir Muhammad, called on MTN to improve its network, saying, “You walked away with our network. Fix our network now #Jibia. We deserve better.”
Another user, David, criticised the company over service disruptions, poor internet service and the rate at which data was allegedly exhausted.

Similarly, Emmylight questioned MTN over data consumption, claiming that a 30GB subscription on a 4G Mini WiFi was exhausted in less than a week.
Some subscribers also raised concerns over alleged unauthorised deductions. A user identified as Truth Teller claimed that ₦200 was deducted from his wife’s ₦1,500 airtime for a value-added service called “Kids Update,” which the user said she did not subscribe to.
In another complaint, a subscriber identified as femi_wellington demanded a refund of ₦30,000 from MTN and tagged the company’s official accounts, including MTN Nigeria and MTN MoMo, in the post.
